Step 4: Define the industry of your business and filter the investors that focus on the same industry
Check if the firm is investing in your industry. For example, it is useless to pitch an edtech project to a VC that invests only in life science technologies. You will not get a deal even if the investor loves your company.
Investments can be made in a broad range of industry sectors, such as energy, healthcare, consumer products, fintech, retail, media, etc.
Some investors specialize in one specific sector, some target a few sectors, and others are generalist “sector-agnostic” investors.
Quite often it depends on the investor type, for example, VCs tend to be more specialized while Private Equity firms can be more diversified.
